Books

At the Couth Buzzard, we hold a variety of both used and new books.  We also accept used books for store credit which will earn you discounts on books purchased from our shelves. It’s a great way for book lovers to save — your store credit gives you 50% off used books and 10% off new books, and your credit balance can be shared with friends and family.

How Credit Works:

Please call ahead at (206) 436-2960 to confirm we have space to accept your donation, or if you have any questions about what we will take. We accept no more than two boxes at a time, during business hours (M-W 10am-6pm, Th-Sun 10am-9pm). We prefer to receive books Wednesdays through Sundays.

We do not accept textbooks, multi-volume encyclopedias, Harlequin-style romances, magazines, very out-of-date travel guides/computer manuals (within last five years preferred), or — most importantly – anything partially destroyed, water damaged, mildewed, or moldy.*  We prefer not to take hardbacks without their dust jackets or advance reader copies (ARCs).

Though we have a program where customers can buy items for Books to Prisoners, we do not take donations for that organization. Click here to learn more about BTP and our program.

We are in particular need of science fiction, graphic novels, LGBTQIA+ books, and recent cookbooks.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the books you intend to bring in.

The books we do not accept can either be returned to you, or donated to a charitable organization.

When you’re ready to buy a book, just give the cashier your name, and they will find your credit balance in our computer system. Let’s say you find a used book priced at $10 — your credit pays for $5, and you only pay the other $5 plus tax. If your book is on sale, you get the sale price plus the additional credit discount. Your credit also gives you a 10% discount on brand-new books.

Credit cannot be redeemed for cash, nor does it apply to cafe items.

Thank you for your continued support!
